We keep a close eye on anything new that comes out. Typically, we have to look at gadgets that are completely new and standalone. It’s rare when we get to try out a gadget that turns an item we already have into something super amazing. DreamScreen TV is one of those products that really does transform movie, TV, and video game play. They currently have a KickStarter campaign running that everybody should go check out immediately if you find this remotely interesting (which everybody should). They sent us a free demo to test out to give you all some great firsthand knowledge.
Setting Up DreamScreen
It took less than 20 minutes for us to setup and that was mostly because our TV was wall-mounted. So there was some snaking of wires down to our components and the TV had to be taken off for the LED strips to be stuck onto the TV. If we had it simply sitting on a standalone TV stand, it would have taken less than 10 minutes. The setup is simple:
- Stick the LED strips onto the edges of your TV (they make different sizes for different sized TVs).
- Get your HD and power sources correctly hooked up.
- Download the DreamScreen TV app (which is very user friendly by the way).
Start changing every TV show, video game, or movie that you watch.
What Can DreamScreen Do?![]()
So there are several options to choose from. Here’s a breakdown of each one:
- Video: The LED lighting will actually match up with the colors on the edging of whatever you’re watching.
- Music: LED lighting will actually change the lighting based on the sounds of the music that you’re listening to (either through the HDMI input or audio jack).
- Ambient: You can choose your own color that stays constant or select a preset scene (4th of July colors, holiday colors, etc.). The ambient scenes were actually one of the cool things we were completely surprised with.
The video matching really seemed to work well. It was responsive (no lag that we were able to find) and could match every single color of the different shows and TVs that we tested.
Final Thoughts
We were blown away by DreamScreen. It was a product that we never realized that we needed until we had it. Now that we’ve experienced it, it’s hard to imagine watching any major movies or playing PlayStation without it. It even matched up great with our old Nintendo games!
